A quick guide!

You can sign up to the Better Points app to be rewarded for travelling more sustainably. Whether you’re walking, cycling, or catching the bus, you can log your activities and earn BetterPoints. You can swap these points for high-street vouchers, spend them with local businesses, or even donate them to charities.

Take a look at the Cyclox website too, who are ‘the voice of cycling in Oxford’. This organization advocates for the rights and interests of cyclists in the community, striving to promote safer cycling environments and better infrastructure. They provide valuable resources, support local events, and engage in initiatives that encourage more people to embrace cycling as a sustainable mode of transport. By fostering a strong cycling culture, Cyclox aims to enhance the overall quality of life in Oxford while reducing traffic congestion and lowering carbon emissions.

K-BUG (Kidlington Bicycle Users Group)

In the last few months, KEG members with encouragement from Cherwell District Council have set up a K-BUG. Similar groups exist in other parts of the county and are a vehicle (pun absolutely intended) for advising and facilitating the development of local cycling infrastructure. Chris Brennan (local representative for the Cycling Advocacy Network & Walk Wheel Cycle Trust Volunteer Ranger) explains:

  • ‘As a cycling group we will have a bigger voice in local government decisions about cycling infrastructure and routes
  • we will hopefully encourage an increase in the number of people cycling
  • Kidlington is now a town and the other towns in Cherwell District each have their own ‘bicycle user group’ (BUG)’

A stall at the Gala Day in July gathered interest and a group has been formed. One particular focus are proposals for a 10 mile leisure cycling route around Begbroke/Yarnton/Kidlington.
