3. We believe developing a more local, circular and sustainable economy makes good sense for the region as well as the planet. What steps would you take or support to enable local communities generally, and ours specifically, to develop in this way?
Ian Middleton (Green Party):
“I’d support more ethically based businesses such as refill stores, repair workshops and encourage businesses to be more connected to the local community through outreach schemes. All businesses should have a climate change agenda and should make that transparent to customers and clients. I’d also like to see more community owned businesses.”
Veronica Oakeshott (Labour Party):
“Labour is committed to reducing waste by moving to a circular economy. This is a manifesto commitment.”
Calum Miller (Liberal Democrats):
“Having spent time with Bicester Green during the campaign I am looking to increase my and my household’s purchase of plastic-free, packaging free consumables.
Encourage a Library of Things to provide household goods for young people or new householders who might be new to the property market or move often.
Encourage re-use of clothes and goods.
Encourage and facilitate sessions with local communities to explore the potential for this within their community.”
