1. What would be your top 3 strategic priorities for tackling the climate crisis at the local level in this constituency?
Ian Middleton (Green Party):
“1) Protecting green spaces
2) Promoting nature recovery and biodiversity through local projects
3) Encouraging the circular economy through local initiatives such as WISH”
Veronica Oakeshott (Labour Party):
“1) Make Bicester and Woodstock a green energy and engineering hub, whilst protecting our heritage. There are some amazing future-facing companies already in the constituency – from the Kidlington based ‘Electrogenic’ car company (which takes vintage cars and turns them electric) to the plans for Bicester Innovation quarter. These industries will give our children high quality jobs in the future and enable us to lead the way in the global green transition.
2) Support people to make the switch to electric cars through better provision of charging infrastructure.
3) Clean up our rivers. The level of waste going into our local rivers is a scandal. Labour will give new powers to Ofwat to block water bosses’ bonuses if they continue to pollute illegally, and ensure water bosses who oversee repeated law-breaking will face criminal charges.”
Calum Miller (Liberal Democrats):
“1) Take a holistic approach to flood management and prevention including consideration of the planning process.
2) Amend the planning process to enable and encourage net zero housing
3) Sustained efforts to promote active travel and higher use of public transport through increased services In addition, I would look to continue my support for the significant tree planting commitment by OCC and Highways Agency to plant 3,000 trees in Oxfordshire”
