Local Eco News 📰
Spring has come full hale and hearty, and it’s time for your favorite monthly update!

Wild Kidlington Celebration & Birthday Tea
On Saturday 29th March the 3rd anniversary of Wild Kidlington was celebrated with a thank you for volunteers who had helped make the project work over the last 3 years: all the wildlife wanders, bat and swift walk capers, open wild gardens, hedgehog highways, eco fayres, and green space biodiversity boost bonanzas. Whilst prosecco was sipped and cake supped, Rhiannon, our illustrious Wild Kidlington officer gave a speech with trademark bubbliness, and Cllr Lesley McLean delivered a vote of thanks on behalf of the Parish and Cherwell District Councils. Sadly there’s not as much funding available moving forwards, so the shape of the project is changing, but Rhiannon will still be around one day a week as well as running a slew of additional events to engage the community and nurture wildlife.

Park Hill Growing Space Developments
In the last Monthly Digest you will have read how Park Hill Growing Space volunteers had planted new native hedging to replace some long deceased Elder trees. Over March fruit bushes were added and four plum trees with snowbells round their bases planted – all thanks to extra funding from Cherwell District Council. And not just that, more wood-chipping, a new sign, and an extra picnic bench has been added, just in time for sunnier days. And we haven’t even mentioned the seed planting for this years veg harvest! If you’d like to come along and join the team – the next session is on the 19th Apr from 10am-12pm, with half time hot drinks and nibbles provided. And remember Park Hill isn’t the only Growing Space! To find out more see the calendar below and come along to one of the sessions or drop Ruth an email to find out more, via growspace@kidlington-pc.gov.uk.

Coronation Garden – Micro Sanctuary for the Weary Soul
The fantastic team of Coronation Garden volunteers have also been sprucing up Kidlington’s youngest garden on the corner of the High Street and Home Close (just along from Tesco). New flowers and hedging have been planted and a new cycle of flowers are fast emerging. The garden and the benches have become a welcome stopping place for tired villagers to rest awhile or meditatively tuck into a lunch break sandwich. If you’ve not sampled it yourself, why not come and enjoy a quiet moment in the middle of your busy day?! If you’d like to help the team keep this spot tip top please get in touch with Cllr Alison Street via alison.street@kidlington-pc.gov.uk and she’ll link you in.
