Some headlines since the last update…

Kidlington Abundance – It’s that time of year again and Abundance were at it again last month – taking surplus apples and turning them into liquid joy at Kidlington Methodist, North Kidlington Primary School, and Shipton-on-Cherwell village hall. Julia Trowles writes: “A steady flow of bags, boxes and barrows arrived at each of our Community Apple Pressings. We greeted many familiar faces – children grown to teenagers; toddlers now tall enough to reach the press; gardeners who just don’t know what to do with all their windfalls! and onlookers drawn in to the bustle and noise of the scratter…
It is always difficult to count exactly how much juice we make as it is irresistible to quench your thirst with the fresh juice as it flows into the bucket. We estimate this year’s total is well over 450 litres – nearly 99 gallons! And I know we have re-used more than 500 bottles. The shed looks quite empty. And I believe there are at least a dozen demijohns around the village, blipping their way to cider. Now all pasteurised, the juice is being distributed to those who attended our events. If there is any left, we will be at the turning on of the Christmas Lights with Hot Spiced Apple Punch.”

Draft Busters are go! – Having waded through a shed-load of paperwork and admin, the Draught Busters project is finally launching – and not a minute too soon. The draughty days are upon us and our wonderful volunteers Anthony and Bob are raring to go – helping local households to plug the draughts, cut bills and reduce their carbon footprints.
