Local Eco News

Some headlines since the last update…

St Mary’s Fields Conservation – If you’d gone down to the wood today – or, more accurately, at the beginning of September – you’re sure to have had a surprise. A digger was out chortling gently amongst the trees as part of the effort to clear paths – an early autumnal task for the St Mary’s Fields’ work party. The other (humanoid) volunteers made themselves busy with clearing back encroaching foliage, wood-chipping paths, and checking on how the slow worm hideouts are going.

Coronation Gardens – Some of you will have noticed that the rather wild patch of land at the entrance of Home Close has been claimed by Kidlington Parish Council with a view to transforming it into a Coronation Garden in celebration of King Charles’ crowning earlier this year. So far the ground has been cleared, a path laid, and the dry stone wall given a bit of encouragement! The plan is to lay some turf, plant some trees, and install some insect and bee-loving flowers such as lavender and rosemary at a date to be confirmed in October. If you’d be up for coming to help out watch this space.
